MONDAY MORNING MOMENTS
May 17, 1999 Vol. IV Number 19
It was one of those cools spring days in Western Washington, and I had just been to see my daughter who lives a few miles from us. As I left her house, he parting words tome were, “Dad be careful when you go through Roy, the police are very mean and do not tolerate any excessive speed.”
As I approached the city limits of Roy I slowed my car down and noticed that the speed limit changed about every three or four blocks, As I was slowing down I suddenly noticed red and blue lights were following me and could not imagine why I needed to stop.
I pulled over to the curb, and the officer in very direct and forceful tones indicated that I had been speeding. The officer and I exchanged differing opinions of the infraction. Finally, in utter desperation and with great sarcasm he demanded to see my license.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out the license and when I did, my discount card from a regional supermarket came out with it. So I handed him my license and then I handed him the discount card, and asked for a discount on the ticket.
It struck him funny, so he just warned me to slow down when I pass through his town. Believe me I do! His final remark was that the card story got to him. I’m glad it did!
How often in life, we break God’s laws and think “well I can play the trump card and God will let me into His eternal home.” the truth of the matter is, that there is only one card you can play and that is the blood bought card of Jesus Christ. It is not my righteousness that saves me, it is the blood of Jesus.
“Look at the Nations and watch - and be UTTERLY AMAZED. for I am going to do something in YOUR days that you would not believe even if you were told” Habakkuk 1:5
