DIABETES....a full time job
If you read the following ad in your local newspaper, would you answer
it?
WANTED--person to manage life with diabetes, 24
hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Requirements include
creative skills, flexibility, appreciation for the unexpected, and tolerance
for pain. It's a demanding career involving the use of mental, physical,
and technical skills in caring for diabetes and other self-care needs while
probably maintaining home, family, other employment, etc.
I don't believe anyone would want to answer that ad! But this
is what the job of managing life with diabetes is all about. There
is no "vacation" for the diabetic. Most of the general public has
no idea of the seriourness of this chronic disease. They must be
educated and we must work towards a cure for diabetes.
