Agnette Sorum, daughter of Evan Evanson, was born in Norway about 1851.
She married a Scotsman, Robert Cheyne, in about 1882 in New Zealand.
Agnette and Robert, became first-time parents with the birth of Lillian Hawthorne Cheyne in about 1885 in New Zealand. This was the first of five children to be born to them. Agnette was the spouse of Robert Cheyne when he immigrated to Melbourne in about 1889. Agnette died in 1901 in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy, at 50 years of age. Agnette Sorum died leaving her husband Robert a widower.

Lillian Hawthorne Cheyne was born in New Zealand in about 1885. Lily immigrated to Melbourne with her family at a young age. However, despite her given name she was known as Lily. Her mother died in 1901. Lily was aged 16 when this happened. She married Henry John Barrett in 1906 in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy at about 21 years of age.Lily, at about 22 years of age most likely became the mother of Joan Cheyne in 1907 in the Melbourne suburb of Carlton. Despite her recent marriage, her husband did not appear to be the father. Tragedy struck again for the Cheyne children with the death of their brother Arthur at the age of nineteen in 1907, only six years after the death of their mother. Lily died in 1948 in England, at 63 years of age.
Albert Cheyne was born in about 1886. His mother died in 1901. Albert was aged 15 when this happened. Tragedy struck again for the Cheyne children with the death of their brother Arthur at the age of nineteen in 1907, only six years after the death of their mother.
Arthur Alfred Cheyne was born in about 1888. However, Arthur was to die before 1913. Arthur immigrated to Melbourne with family on the. His mother died in 1901. Arthur was aged 13 when this happened. Arthur died in 1907 in East Melbourne, at 19 years of age.
Daisy Agnnete Cheyne was born in Richmond, Victoria in 1891. Her mother died in 1901. Daisy was aged 10 when this happened. Tragedy struck again for the Cheyne children with the death of their brother Arthur at the age of nineteen in 1907, only six years after the death of their mother. She married John Lincoln Sherman in 1914 at 23 years of age. John was born in 1890.
