We must never forget how easily our freedom can be put in jeopardy and we must remain ever vigilant in the future. Never forget the brave men and women who have in the past fought for our freedom and remember in prayer those soldiers who are valiantly defending our great nation today.
Welcome to Sword and Thistle
The “highlands” or mountains of Eastern Kentucky was where most of my ancestors chose to settle, to begin building a life from the few things they had. They were never wealthy, and often barely scratched out a decent living, but they were rich in family and friends and the wonderful mountain traditions of the area. My ancestors were farmers, coal miners, soldiers, and statesmen....some famous and more than a few infamous, but all combined to make me what I am today.
I started this site years ago, after joining The Clan Wallace Society Worldwide as a Life Member. I began looking into my Scots-Irish heritage and soon became addicted to genealogy. Along the way, I discovered I had many Revolutionary War ancestors, and so I also joined the National Society Daughter of the American Revolution. I currently serve as a lineage lookup volunteer for D.A.R. As a D.A.R. member, I have taken on the task of carefully documenting my family lineages, and helping others to accomplish the same. My family database has grown exponentially, and includes most major family surnames of Southwestern Virginia, Eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia. Chances are, we might connect somehow.
