"My name is Tom Corntassel; I was enrolled as a half blood Cherokee; I was enrolled by the Dawes Commission under the name of Thomas Corntassel, #22466; my mother was a white woman, but my father was a full blood Cherokee; I was born in Going Snake District, 1860; my father was born in the old nation in the East; I don't know the name of my father's mother; my grandparents on my father's side were born in the old nation in the East; my grandparents and father came out with the Cherokees at the time of the emigration; my father was captain of one of the detachments that came out at the time of the emigration; none of my people were Old Settlers; I never received any Old Settler money; I was enrolled and drew the Strip payment in 1894; both I and the ancestors through whom I claim have always been Cherokees and have never taken up rights with any tribe of Indians other than the Cherokees; my father's father died in the old nation before the emigration, but my grandmother and my father and one of my brothers, Lewis, drew money in 1851; my people were enrolled in Going Snake District; my uncle, Ah-da-yah was enrolled in Illinois District, I think.
"I have an aunt by the name of Che-yah-neh-nuh, Keh-tee-sah-tee was the name of a boy who lived with my parents; Kah-no-ske-skee was the name of a boy who lived with my parents; (See Going Snake 274)"
