My great grandmother was Emma A. Capps of Warren County (Arcola). Her father was Whitmell Capps m. Sarah Willey 09 Sep 1852. He was the son of Hillary Capps. Hillary Capps was married twice. First to Nancy Walker (abt 1790) and second to Rebecca Bobbit, 1 Oct 1811. Hillary's father was Joshua Capps. I have the wills of both Joshua and Hillary. [T]he abstracts of their wills [are at: the Wills page].
The 1880 census shows him as Whitman Capps, age 55, with wife Sarah (Willey) They were married 09 Sept 1852, according to the marriage records of Warren County. His children are Mary age 22, John L. age 21, Martha 15, Sola age 12.
Emma Capps was married three times. I don't have the dates of the first two marriages but I know she married James Hull first. They had 2 children - Sarah and Jesse. Sarah Hull was my grandmother. James Hull died in a timber accident (between 1887 and 1892). Sarah was born in 1879 and Jesse abt 1887. Emma married Charles King second and they had a son - Charlie King. He was born abt 1892. She married Elijah D. Moore in 13 April 1896 in Brinkleyville, Halifax County, North Carolina.
Emma died without a will before 1906. Sarah, Jesse and Charlie King inherited her land. I have a copy of a lawsuit of Sarah and my grandfather, George Aldridge Moore's which is lengthy so I won't go into the details now but they eventually lost their land during the depression.
NOTE: Sarah Hull married George Moore in 1895 at the home of her mother, Mrs. E.A. King in Brinkleyville. In 1896, Emma married Elijah D. Moore, who was a cousin of George Moore. The only census record of George Moore is in 1870 and he was living with Elijah's family. I have not been able to find George Moore and his parents or Elijah's family after 1870 in the census records. So there is a big gap for him - from 1870 to 1895.
