As our backyard is terraced and drops away steeply we decided it would be quite a hike down to get to an inground pool, but we wanted to try and achieve an inground effect. So after having quite a few pool builders come and shake their heads at the difficulty we found someone who could handle the challenge. The middle terrace was reshaped and 6 piers were formed along with the footing wall to support the weight of the pool shell and water. Once the footing was poured and back-filled the formwork was erected to support the concrete, we did an "upgrade" to have 1m wide cantilevered sides at each end. As only one side of the pool is supported by earth about twice the normal amount of steel was used in the shell. After 4 weeks for the shell to cure the tiles were laid, followed finally by the pebblecrete interior. In total the pool took over 3 months to build. We are still finishing the landscaping which includes retaining walls, stairs, and levelling, Olga and I did this work to keep costs down. So finally we can swim and the boys love it. Don't ask how much it all cost!
