Larry A. Blizzard
Larry Allen Blizzard, 67, of 2860 Silo Road, Kinston, died Sept. 26 at Veteran's Administration Hospital in Durham. Blizzard was born in Lenoir County. Survivors include a son, Michael R. Blizzard of Route 2, Scranton and a daughter, Ethel Mae Blizzard of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren; several brothers and sisters who reside in Florida. Interment will be conducted at a later date in Kinston.

Elia R. Jenkins
Elia Ruth Jenkins, 71, of 186 Andrew St. died Sept. 28 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Heath Chapel Disciples of Christ with Elder Montorom Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery, Kinston. Survivors include her husband, William H. Jenkins of the home; her mother, Georgaella Herring of Kenansville; three daughters, Betty Joyner and Evelyn Joyner, both of Kinston and Ella Williams of Newton Grove; two sons, William James Jenkins Jr. of Kinston and Jimmy Ray Jenkins of Pink Hill; two sisters, Reather Mae Boney and Queenie Elizabeth Boney, both of Rose Hill; one brother, Arthur Thomas of Kenansville; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. PINK HILL -- Hilda Grace Mercer Jones, 36, died Sept. 29 at her residence. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Community Funeral Home chapel in Beulaville. Interment will follow at Whaley Cemetery, Hargett Cross Roads, Richlands. Survivors include her parents, mother, Jessie Leona Mercer; father, Norwood Oscar Mercer of Pink Hill; one son, Ralph Eric Jones of Pink Hill; a sister, Teresa Ann Miller of Pink Hill; two brothers, Ted Allen Mercer of Burgaw and Jonathan Shane Mercer of Pink Hill. William T. Moore III
AYDEN -- William "Bill" Tharp Moore III, 79, died Sept. 29 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Moore was a member of Ayden Christian Church and was retired from E.I. DuPont Company with 42 years of service. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Chapel of Farmer Funeral Service in Ayden. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Jones Moore of the home; two sons, Barry Moore of Atlanta and Jeff Moore of Greenville; one daughter, Pam Carter of Grifton; and six grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Farmer Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ayden Rescue Squad.

Benjamin C. Sutton
Benjamin Carmer "B.C." Sutton, husband of Annie Howard Sutton died Sept. 29 at Carteret General Hospital. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Pinelawn Cemetery. Service directed by Preston Crooms. Munden Funeral Home and Crematory, Morehead City handled arrangements.

Charlie Dupree III
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. -- Charlie Dupree III, 42, of 12922 Dunkirk Place, died Sept. 22 at his residence. Services will be conducted a 1 p.m. Sunday at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Falkland. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Survivors include four sisters, Linda Dupree of Capital Heights, Md., Mary Wade of Upper Marlboro, Phyllis Jones-Stukes of Oxon Hill, Md., and Veronica Dupree-Fox of Landover, Md.; one brother, William Dupree of Brandywine, Md. Alex V. Grady
DEEP RUN -- Alex Vance Grady, 73, of Deep Run died Wednesday, Sept. 30. Mr. Grady was retired from the Navy, was in the Masonic Lodge, a Ruritan, in the Moose Lodge and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Lena Grady; his wife, Emily Grady; and three brothers, Rommie Grady, Alvin Grady and Wilbert Grady. Services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Howard-Carter & Stroud Funeral Home chapel in Kinston. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Kinston. Survivors include two sisters, Estelle G. Futrell of Kinston and Rosa G. Geneva Hooks, 64, of Britthaven Nursing Home died Oct. 1 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Hooks was a homemaker. She was a member of Spilman Memorial Baptist Church. LA GRANGE -- Ruby Lee Smith, 65, of 203 E. Washington St. died Sept. 28 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park. She was a native of Martin County and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Jacobson was the daughter of the late Henry Harrison Brown and Lula Kate Brown Huggins. Survivors include her husband, Mr. Jacobson; two daughters, Evelyn Moore Korbet, of Fairfax, Va., and Barbaree Ellen Moore, of Elizabeth City; one son Rodger Allen Moore, Jr., of Greenback, Tenn.; two sisters, Gladys Gabriel, of Boca Raton Fla, and Ann Warren, of Chesapeake, Va.; one brother Henry H. Dorothy C. Pitt
Dorothy Cogdell Pitt died Oct. 4 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at the United American Free Will Baptist Tabernacle. Viewing was from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Hill Memorial Free Will Baptist Church, 301 Rochelle Blvd. Mrs. Pitt is a retired educator, having worked in the Lenoir County school system for 42 years, teaching at Frink and La Grange Elementary schools. Dot is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, with a concentration in elementary education and music. She received her master's degree in education from North Carolina Central University at Durham. Dorothy continued with her love of people by working with various youth organizations and community programs. She was a charter member of Emmanuel Hill Memorial Free Will Baptist Church, Women's Home Mission and director of the Chancel Choir. She directed the Northwest 'B' Union II Choir, was founder and director of the Ecumenical Friends of Lenoir County. Mrs. Pitt was a charter member of the American Business Women's Association and a charter member of the Adkin Reunion Class of 1942-46 (ARC) having served as president since its beginning. She is also a member of the Democratic Women, Association of Congregations, Friends of the Library, North Carolina Symphony, N.C. Retired School Personnel, Johnson C. Smith Alumni, NAACP, Black Artists' Guild, Inc. and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Mrs. Pitt has received honors from Gov. Hunt, Congresswoman Eva Clayton and her community. Recently the community paid homage to this extraordinary servant. Survivors include her husband, Lloyd O.K. "Polly" Pitt of the home; one daughter, Veronica and Phillips Marshall of Waldorf, Md.; one sister, Esther C. and William Parker of Kinston; two brothers, Charles C. Cogdell Jr. of New Bern and Alton and Wanda Cogdell of Greenville; two grandchildren, Marcus Cogdell and Phillip J. Marshall of Waldorf, Md.; one great-grandchild, Marques Cogdell and a host of nieces and nephews. To her survivors she leaves a rich legacy of love and respect for humanity, of independent thought, generosity and faith in God. We celebrate the life of Dorothy C. He was an Eagle Scout receiving the God and Country award, Boy Scout camp ranger and a gifted artist and athlete. He attended High Point College and East Carolina University. He was a member of Queen Street Methodist Church.
