WELCOME TO MY FIRST ALL "MINE" GRAPHIC PAGE I finally did it !!!
This is my very first attempt of "creating" graphics of my own I am dedicating this page To my Friend. Her name is DONNA and without her patience and time spent teaching me the "hows" and "how to's" Well, This would look ALOT different.
I quess I need to introduce myself, My name is Cindy but people have started calling me "Kick" since I have been online. Short for Kickapoo which is the name of the Indian tribe that used to live on my property a long, long time ago. I live in a very small community of about "500" people Our population sign say "419" but a few have been added We don't have to lock our doors and can leave the windows open and the keys in the ignition over night or to run into the store. I moved here 17 years ago and put down roots being a military family and later marry into it I have never lived in one place longer than 3 years. So, my roots are deep here. I have 2 children,a son, Ted, who is 30, and a daughter, Sandy, who is 20. Both are married. Ted has given me my first grandchild, Jaylyn Nicole. I divorced in 1980 and have remained single, it is easier and less complicated that way when children are involved, Now, Well, I hate saying too old, so as a friend once said, You're not old, just "SEASONED". Sounds better that way.(hee hee) Anyway, finding the internet as brought the world to my finger tips and I realized that I am alot like everyone else. I have so many likes and hobbies and the next pages I create will address alot of them I have learned alot doing this one had help on the other two and I think the rest will go alot faster geeezs, I sure hope so I know "Trial" and "Error" so well, especially the "Error" part I guess I should explain something to you on why this has been so difficult for me In 1986, I had a very serious horse accident with severe head trauma I am ok , the wonders of plastic surgery and a few wires and bits of plastic but the residual of the accident is, I have a very hard time comprehending what I read. It takes a lot of repetition to get things to the point that I can remember how to do it without having to have instrucions close. So, bear with me on that. The bullets below are of things to come So,check back regularly, I'll work as fast as I can and I promise you won't be disappointed. :o)
This is a picture of of my town,Lipan,Texas in 1907. Still about the same size just built up the other side of the street.
Before I get to the bullets, and a viewing of my site AWARDS I am so excited about those!! I have some history about the county I live in. Here it is, see if this sounds familar.
The names of Loving and Goodnight are synonymous of the early day ranching history of Palo Pinto County. Both men settle there before the county was organized. Loving came with his family in 1855. Goodnight and his mother came in 1856. They became partners in the ranching business in 1866 and in June of that year blazed The Loving-Goodnight Trail westward to New Mexico and Colorado, one which thousands of Texas Longhorns were later driven to the western markets.
Oliver Loving might well be called "The Father of Texas Trail Driving," according to Charlie Goodnight who said he was undoubtly the first man to trail cattle from Texas. This was the year of 1858 when Loving drove a herd of Longhorns from his Palo Pinto Ranch through the Indian Nation or "No Man Land," across Kansas, Missouri, and into Illinois.
In like manner, Loving pioneered the first trail to Colorado.
In 1867,Loving and Goodnight started out again over the same trail with a second herd of Longhorns. This trip ended in disaster for Loving near the Pecos River, when he was shot by the Indians. He later dies from the wound.
The partners met in Ft. Summer, New Mexico, before Loving died, and Goodnight promised him that he would bring his body back to civilization for burial. Loving died September 26, 1867. In the fall of that year Goodnight, true to his word, brought the body back, carried by wagon to Weatherford,Texas, where it is interred. Goodnight marketed their cattle and bought Mrs. Loving her share of the profits which amounted to about seventy-two thousand dollars.
Charlie Goodnight left Palo Pinto County in 1876 and established the first ranch in the vast plains country in the Polo Duro Canyon. He ranched in that section of Texas until he died at ninety-four years of age.
OK, what is familar about this story? Need a hint? Here's Goodnight and Loving's picture.
