ISAAC CANNELL6 MILES (ELIZABETH5 CANNELL, ISAAC4, PETER3, THOMAS2, JAMES1) was born 23 March 1817 in Costessey, Norfolk, England, and died 10 June 1887 in Alburgh, Norfolk, England. He married SARAH SUSANNAH YOUNGS 10 December 1846 in Alburgh, Norfolk, England, daughter of JOHN YOUNGS and SARAH MEEK. She was born 04 March 1827 in Alburgh, Norfolk, England, and died 1895. Notes for ISAAC CANNELL MILES: He was a Farmer in 1851 in Alburgh, Norfolk. He was a Farmer 370 acres in 1881 in High Street, Alburgh, Norfolk. Isaac and Sarah owned a Farm at Alburgh, near Harleston, Suffolk. Isaac was a dealer in Land. Apparently, late in 1866 a dead cat was brought into the family home, resulting in the whole family catching Diphtheria. This resulted in the deaths of two of the children, Frederick aged just 5 months, in Novembr 1866 and Ellen, aged 14, in the January of 1867. The other children all had the illness severely enough to ensure that they would never make the three score and ten years that we are all told is a normal life span. Two of the children were away from the home at the time the illness struck the family and therefore they never caught Diphtheria, and thus they lived to a more advanced age, as did Ellen who was born afterwards. Apparently Diphtheria weakens the heart severely due to the lack of oxygen available, and would therefore be the cause of the later early deaths of the children who survived the original illness. The two who died would have slowly suffocated to death, due to the membrane which grows across the airway. A truly terrible way to die, and it must have been a devastating experience for the parents, Isaac and Sarah to have to go through watching their children gasping for air, having no power themselves to prevent or ease their suffering. Information from visits to Mary Fenning and Doris Miles; 12/13 October 1992. In the Costessy transcript of Baptisms I found the following: 1817 23 Mar. Miles Isaac C. s. of John (Farmer) and Elizabeth. The writer of the above entry appears to have copied the birth entry for Isaac. Isaac was not baptised until he was 12 years old and at that, in Alburgh not Costessey!! Why is the above entered as baptism? I was unable to see the original Costessey registers as they were in too poor a condition. The microfiche copy of the register will have to be consulted, although there does seem enough proof that the above was Isaac's date of birth. However, it is possible that he might have been baptised twice. The Alburgh baptism being made in order to aid with settlement in the village. Children of ISAAC MILES and SARAH YOUNGS are: i.
