Roxy

Roxy in her onesies

Roxy had to wear onesies to prevent her from tearing her stitches after her spay. Much more attractive than those cones, don't you think?

Roxy came into our family at the early age of 8 weeks and just in time for Christmas. We decided, because of all the activity that Christmas day creates, to bring her home Dec. 26. Still unknown to the children, a large package was under the tree. Wrapped was Roxy's crate filled with her dishes, collars, toys, and handbooks on puppies and Pugs. Sarah and Trevor were overjoyed by the unwrapping of that present and could hardly wait to meet the puppy they had been praying for.

Anyone who has raised a puppy knows of the commitment it takes. Feeding and training are a full-time job but rewarding with a well-behaved dog. We tied a small bell to the back door, touched it with her paw EVERY time she went outdoors and said "outside". She now rings her bell to go outside. (It sometimes drives us nuts!)

The children are very good about taking care of her needs. They take her for walks, (which she loves), washes her face and brushes her coat daily, teaches her tricks,(shake, speak, and rollover), and plays with her. How Roxy loves to play! It seems her doggy brain is programmed, "If it moves, chase it! If it stands still, chew it!" She knows what her toys are and that they are the only acceptable things to chew. She is a wonderful pet and breed for a family.

A few things we can learn from a dog:

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy. When loved ones come home, always run to greet them. When it's in your best interest, practice obedience. Take naps and stretch before rising. Run, romp and play daily. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you're not. Let others know when they've invaded your territory. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do. When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently. Thrive on attention and let people touch you. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree. No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout...run right back and make friends. Bond with your pack.

Roxy in the garden

"I sit stupid."

Well, of course Roxy isn't really stupid, but we do wonder why she sits with her back legs sprawled out. Does anyone know if this is common to this breed?

Roxy and Athena

We have a new member in our family!

Athena, born December 31, 1998 is a very curious, alert, playful, and energetic Boxer pup! She lives with and belongs to our oldest daughter and son-in-law. All mouth and legs, Athena is quite the comic when she comes to visit us and Roxy. Roxy thinks she's "Needle-teeth" but seems to enjoy running and trying to keep up with her.

Athena

We are excited about watching Athena grow. Her feet are mammoth, giving us strong inclinations she will soon become a nice brawny boxer.
