ROTTWEILER AND STORY ABOUT

P Y O M E T R A

This was primarly the story about our female Gea, but when I first made this page both my dogs were happy and healthy.I will tell you the Gea's story with happy ending dealing with pyometra. Gea was one big lovely and gentile female, 5 years old. She went into season in January and all seem to be as usual. At the begining of February she once again got blood discharge. We though it was some kind of prolonged season although there was much more discharge than usual. First few days we waited to see what is happening. Unfortunately soon she begin to drink water more often and pretty soon lost her appetite. Still we didn't dare to think of uterine infection, as she didn't had any fever. Well, we knew that the possibility of that disease is 99%.She had terrible amount of discharge and finally we took her to vet.
Pyometra was diagnosed and it was like our worst nightmare was becoming true. She got some hormonal medications which she took for one week.Medications were suposed to make uterine contractions in order to clean it faster. There was no changes, at least not in good way. Our Gea almost stop eating and she was weaker every day. Finally we knew there is only one solution - surgery. Well, spaying healthy female and the weak one is total different story. We knew her uterus was extremly purulent even though she had open type of pyometra. Just night before surgery she got very high fever and we were worried how will she take the surgery. Will she even survive? The main question, which was keeping us awake during the nights, was:"will she wake up?" The next day we took our poor girl to the surgery. When I kissed her at surgical table, my heart was broken. I wandered:"is this the last time I see her alive?" After one one hour and half we went back. I don't need to tell that those were our longes minutes when we pretended that we are not worried and scared. My legs were shaken when I saw vet coming. Than I heard song:"Everything went fine. She is strong dog". What a relief! Vet showed me what was in her uterus: a huge mass of pus. This thing could poison her body and she would be death very soon. There was whole removement of uterus and ovaries. After Gea was awake, we took her home. I was afraid that she would be in lot of pain, but hopefully she cried just a little bit. She even get up for few seconds. First night we were sleeping next to her, just to be sure she is okay. Next day she was strong enough to slowly walk to the garden. For the whole week she took very strong antibiotics. Hopefully she did great! Very soon she started to eat as she did before. After one week she as new dog!

For all dog owners who might be so unlucky and to have female catching pyometra, I strongly suggest: surgery is the ONLY and BEST way to cure. Even though medication could cure temporarly, this thing can always come back in next season. So, If you notice unusual discarge, do not hesitate - take your female to the vet as soon as possible! Well, I was trying to get as much info as I could. It seems that no one knows for sure what really cause uterine infection. Some blame hormons.
After surgery she was as happy as always, didn't change her temperament, didn't gain weight. Most people here don't want to understant that spaying or neutering pet will be the same and even healthier. many of them stick to old prejudisms and would not accept new and better ideas. When we took her to surgery, we made the most clever thing possible. Many people have females as breeding bitches and complain how breeding would be over. I tell that nothing can and will be more importnant than my dogs LIFE! I know that in the future we will again have Rottweilers and will take them to the dog shows. Having puppies isn't an issue. The main this is to enjoy those precious years with your dog as much as you can. Our pets are here to share joy in our lifes and we must return them what they need most from us: our love!

Maybe story about pyometra disease sounds depressing, but be aware dog owners who have female dogs: thins thing can hit any female unspayed dog, no matter how much we take care about their health, fitness and diet. I am not promoting here spaying as subject. Spaying is just the best solution in this disease.
As much as we enjoy our pets, sometimes they really give us anxiety and fear over their health. We all must be thankfull for every single day in which our four legged friends are healthy and happy.

TODAY WHEN WE LOST BOTH OUR BELOVED DOGS

Today we are without our beloved dogs. Gea died from heart failure in June this year and our Brut died 6 months later from a cancer. He started limping of his right front leg and vet firt told us that it is an arthritis and that he had enlrged heart but looking at his x-ray it might be also a cancer. We REFUSED to accept this and even more because his condition was getting better. This was a real sock to us. Only few months earlier we lost our dear Gea and now we must face another tragedy! Brut was doing pretty good until he got pneumonia and than we almost lost him. He got several antibiotics and many other medications and he was better once again. Than suddenly at the end of November he refused to eat his favorite food. We were feeding him by hand and beg him to eat some slice more. He was getting very weak and we tried everything possiblee to feel comfortable. In that time we just knew that we are loosing him. But at the same time we were gratefull for every single day he was with us even though he was sleeping most of the time. Last day of his life were nightmare. He was in pain and we couldn't do anything to help him. I know that we should put him to sleep but that decision we just couldn't make. His last night he was restless and we were holding him until he was calming down and was sleeping. It seemed that he will have more days ahead but in the morning I went to see him but his soul was already gone. What I felt? At the same time huge emptyness and sadness but also relief knowing that our boy isn't suffering anymore. We just couldn't stop crying and still today we cry whenever we see their photos or find some hair in the house. Life isn't a same without our babies and there will be always pain in the heart. This is the most sad year of my life. Poeple wowuld say ;"this was just a dog" but Brut and Gea were our family like our own flesh and blood. They are now with angels where they belong. Having a pet is the biggest joy as well as the most deepest sadness when we loose them. I hope we will meet again at Rainbow Bridge. Till the time we will meet again I will never stop crying after them. I can only say :"I GOT FEELINGS FOR YOU BABE, FROM THE FIRST TIME I LIE MY EYES ON YOU" (from the song "wish you were here"-by Rednecks)
