The 2001 Metropolitan Orestes Bowling Tournament has come and gone. ACRY members from all over the diocese gathered in Pittsburgh, PA for the annual event. The Princess Lanes and the Radisson-Green Tree served as official sites for the 2001 Tournament. Bowling started out early Saturday morning with the team events, followed by doubles in the afternoon and finally singles on Sunday. The trophies were awarded on Sunday night. Many of the awards stayed in the Pittsburgh area, with host-chapter Homestead and North Side Pittsburgh cleaning up in many of the events.
However, bowling was not the only event of the weekend. On Saturday night, members and guests were treated to a fabulous dinner aboard the Gateway Clipper Fleet's Liberty Belle. As the paddlewheel boat sailed around the city of Pittsburgh, members renewed friendships and made new ones. The tour of the "Steel City" included a trip down to Homestead on the Monogahela River, a spectacular view of the downtown area, and a shot of the new stadiums in Pittsburgh.
On Sunday morning, ACRY members gathered at St. Nicholas Church in Homestead for Divine Liturgy served by Metropolitan Nicholas. Following Liturgy, breakfast was served at St. Nicholas, then it was onto the lanes for the final event of the tournament. That evening, members gathered back at the hotel for the Grand Banquet and Awards Ceremony.
The 2001 Bowling Tournament was enjoyed by all who attended. Now ACRY members focus their attention to the upcoming Convention in Newark, NJ.
