No one who has a true friend can ever lose all hope...
for no one can feel totally worthless who has
worth in another's eyes.
Thank you for showing me that being made to
look ridiculous isn't the end of the world.
Thank you for being the best sounding board in the world.
I bring my half-baked plans to you, or addled theories,
muddled resentments, shapeless dreams.
And come away with courage, hope - and practicalities.
Sometimes I feel phony, a fraud who has
done nothing much with life - but then you write
or phone or turn up on the doorstep...
and make me feel I'm necessary to someone, and loved.
