The RJC Chamber Orchestra consist of talented string players, most of whom already have years of experience in performing. Some of the members are also in the college's Music Elective Programme(MEP) while others are members of the Singapore Youth Orchestra (SYO)

The Orchestra a wide range of repertoire that span the different periods of music. From baroque to classical to modern works, from concertos to sonatas and  symphonies....we try out different sorts of music during the weekly practises.

The Orchestra holds one major performance every year during the College's Arts Feste. Other performances include lunchtime concerts at the school's concourse, community service at various Old Folks' Homes and afternoon performances at public places like Borders, CHIJMES......

The bi-annual SYF Music Competition also ranks high on the Orchestra's list of important events. In the recent 1999 SYF Central Judging for String Orchestras, the RJC Chamber Orchestra clinched a Gold Medal. Yippee! =)

Even Ms Sirene Lim and Ms Constance Wong took part! =)
And that's me......the one and only with a chair. =)

During the weekly practises, sounds of merry laughter can often be heard. After practises, members linger to catch up on the weekly gossip, bang out popular tunes and songs on the piano or gather at the basketball court for a friendly match. Lunching out together at the nearby Ghim Moh hawker centre is something we do everytime practises are scheduled on Saturdays and during the holidays.

this photo shows a skewed sex ratio...with too many guys and too little gals
hmm...i'll just name a few prominent people: CK (or someone who looks like him!) is standing, second from left
i'm standing, 6th from the right, and the gal next to me is peiling
the concert master yingning is kneeling, 3rd from left/right

One event that stands out was the Combined Schools' Music Camp organized jointly by The Chinese High School and RJC Chamber Orchestras. It involved music groups from secondary schools and junior colleges. I felt really fortunate to have been able to play a part in organizing such a large-scale music event. It was a great chance to make new friends--friends for keeps.

RJC's Chamber Orchestra may not boast the largest membership among the ECAs offered in school, but the strong friendships that have been forged among its members is something that I won't forget in a jiffy.
