From four days to one month give it all the milk it will accept up to one pint four times a day. Between the ages one month to three months give the kid one full bottle three times a day.
Bowl Feeding - You can teach a kid four days or older to drink out of a bowl by touching their nose to the milk. This method does work but it is not recommended. The reason for this is because when they drink the milk it goes into the rumen, is gulped down very fast, and does not digest so well. Also, air is taken in with it, and the kid gets various ill effects. Bowl feeding can also cause a goat to get a pot bellied appearance.
Bottle Feeding - This is the feeding method most recommended. It uses the kids sucking instincts. By sucking the digestive juice gets mixed in with the milk and also the milk by-passes the rumen and goes directly to the second stomach where it is digested correctly.
You want to try to let the kid nurse at least the first four days if at all possible. This way the kid will get the colostrum that it needs. If this is not an option milk the colostrum directly from the dam into a bottle to feed the kid in small amounts several times during the day. Milk is crucial for a kid but hay is also necessary. You need to offer a kid a small amount of hay. The kid needs this for the cud to begin.
