DessertsThese are some recipes my mom and other family members use to make as I was growing up. They are delicious!!
Mom's Apple Crisp4 cups cooking apples3/4 cup brown sugar 1/3 cup butter 1/2 cup flour 1/2 cup oatmeal 3/4 tsp cinnamon 3/4 tsp nutmeg Cut apples into small pieces. Mix other ingredients together & put on top. Bake at 375° for 30 to 35 minutes. If apples are tart, sprinkle sugar over. (Mom doubles the butter)
Lemon Mouse1 large can cream, (evaporated)1/2 cup lemon juice 1 cup sugar 1 tsp vanilla 24 graham crackers, crushed Refrigerate cream for up to 2 days prior to use. Whip the cream. Line the bottom of the dish with the graham cracker crumbs. Save a small amount for garnishing the top. Add other ingredients to cream mixture. Pour over cracker crumbs. Sprinkle the remainder of the crumbs lightly over the top for garnishing. Keep refrigerated.
Texas Cake2 cup sugar2 cup plain flour 1 cup sour cream 1 tsp salt 1 tsp soda 2 eggs 2 sticks butter 1 cup water 4 T cocoa FROSTING: 1 stick butter 6 T milk 4 T cocoa 1 box confectioner's sugar 1 tsp vanilla Mix first 6 ingredients together & set aside. In a small saucepan put next 3 ingredients & bring to a slight boil, then add to first 6 ingredients & mix well. Pour into greased oblong cake pan & bake at 350° for 20 minutes. FROSTING: Bring to a slight boil the butter, milk & cocoa. Remove from stove & add confectioner's sugar & vanilla, mix well. Put on cake while it's warm.
