BEWARE!
Not all sugar gliders are tame enough for an easy ride in your pocket.
Sugar gliders are naturally wild animals!
Have you ever heard of a creature that sleeps all day long? Sugar gliders are nocturnal.
They sleep during the daylight hours and they wake up at sunset.
If left undisturbed, they very rarely come out of the nest during daylight hours.
At sunset, they crawl out of their nest, stretch and yawn.
And, like everybody else,
when they first wake up they need to go potty.
Sugar gliders like a safe warm place to sleep.
During the day, a tamed sugar glider will sleep just about anywhere that's dark, warm and safe.
In the morning, when it's time for a sugar glider to go to bed,
you can put it into your shirt
pocket,
it will feel safe and secure in there and it will sleep there through the day.
A tamed sugar glider will ride along in your pocket and will sleep through all your activities!
The sugar glider will get used to your voice, movements, and all the noises you encounter.
They can be woke up from time to time through out the day to come out and play
or to share
with others, but they would really prefer to just snooze.
Tame pet sugar gliders are born in captivity and raised by a knowledgeable person who
will take
the time to properly socialize the baby glider,
also referred to as a "joey".
A sugar glider born in the wild will probably never become tame enough to be handled
and a sugar glider born in captivity that has not been properly socialized
might never become tame.
This is very important to understand!!!
Sugar gliders that are not tamed can be very defensive and down right mean.
They are capable of biting very hard,
hard enough to break the skin and sink their teeth to the bone.
The claws of the sugar glider are razor sharp and are capable of cutting skin,
leaving deep open
wounds.
Handling a sugar glider that is not hand tamed is not recommended.
The untamed sugar glider can still be a good pet
but a person must be very careful and patient in
keeping such an animal.
Expect this animal to bite!!!
"Easy Riders" maintains a small private collection of sugar gliders.
"Easy Riders" is not in business to mass produce sugar gliders.
