Follow Roses to additional Quota ConnectionsAn impressive candlelighting ceremony installed officers of the new QUOTA Club of Anchorage Saturday night (June 29) at the Forest Park Country Club dining room. Mrs. Gladys Herrington of Saskatoon, Canada, immediate past (international) president of Quota International, presented the club charter to Dorothy Prior, president of the local group. Mary Ann Eckstrom was mistress of ceremonies for the dinner, attended by Quotarians and their guests, and representatives of other Anchorage service clubs.
The new club, second in Alaska, will be included in the 14th district of Quota International, Mrs. Herrington said in her address to the group. The service organization, a classification group for executive and professional women, is 33 years old. It now has member clubs in Australia, Canada, Mexico, Alaska and the United States. Fellowships offered by QUOTA to students of other nations for study in the United States are among the major projects of the organization. Aid to the hard-of-hearing is also a QUOTA service, Mrs. Herrington said. "Service is the rent we pay for the space we occupy," said Mrs. Herrington, who attributed the copyrighted phrase to a Quota International parlimentarian.
Installed by Mrs. Herrington, the new club officers are Miss Prior, president; Mrs. Hazelle M. Bailey, secretary; Mrs. Frances Smith, treasurer; board of directors Mrs. Mae Naugle, and Elleighfare Amason. Other officers who were not able to be present were installed by proxy. First Vice President Ernestine Danielson was represented by Mrs. H. Mantle; Second Vice President Isabel Brundage by Mrs. Frank Lott; Board members Nancy Warner and Dorothy Awes by Mary Ann Eckstrom and Frances Lottsfeldt, respectively.
A welcome to the city's newest service club was extended by Ruthella Wade, president of Soroptomist Club; Dr. W.L. Hines, Rotary president; Mark McDevitt of Kiwanis and Harold Dale of Lions. Sally Monserud was in charge of the charter party, assisted by Mary Lou Prawl and Mrs. Frank Lott.
Mrs. Herrington chartered the Fairbanks Quota Club Friday evening, Alaska's first such group, and flew to Anchorage Saturday for the local chartering ceremony
