One night, in the winter, after I went to bed, my Duck began quacking. She continued to quack, and quack, and quack. For a long time I could not go to sleep, then I went downstairs and I discovered that a piece of firewood was too close to the woodstove nd was burning. There was much smoke, but I put out the fire. And I brought my Duck up to the kitchen, where she stayed in a large box. So, My Duck was very helpful in sasving me and my house. |

They follow me everywhere I go. Our baby goose loves to comforst our 4 week old silky chick when we let them in the house, the dog is a little to rough. Our little chick had been left for dead one d y when we arrived home and after 2.5 hours and a miracle my husband was able to revive her. Curiously, we watched, waiting for the mother to arrive, but with no such luck. After 15 minutes or so, we ecided (after some debate), to capture the frightened little creatures before something else did. After many attempts(resulting in several bruises, a black eye, and a possible broken nose) we at last caught one. The other had unfortunately dissapeared. We took the duckling home, without the faintest clue of how we were going to take care of it once we got there, (one passer-by suggested we feed it hamburger!). With no other resourses we surfed the net, until we thankfully stumbled upon your informative and rather amusing website, which now gives us some idea on how to care for our new friend. |

My son and husband, one day went to a hardware store and came back with 4 little babies. Cute yes, a pain, yes. The were kept in my kitchen till they out grew the rubbermaid container and swam in a barbie pool. Then to the closed in room on the back of the house. Now they have a large fenced in area in t e back part of the acreage. Your experience with yours sounds alot like mine. And the pictures are similar also. They are a joy to watch. Their pretty smart too. They have their own swimming pool and know the words come on, get in and swim and also l ts eat. I'm still scared to let them down at the pond because of all the snakes still. Very informative. We really enjoyed the pictures and sounds. My little brother used to have a few ducks, but these are my first. I remember my mother rocking one of the babies to sleep. I c n hardly wait 'til summer so I can watch them swim in the swimming pool we bought for them. |

We got 2 drakes(males) and 2 ganders(females). ut we had a problem with both males getting on 1 gander so we traded a set to another farmer up the road for 8 liters of fresh cows milk. We had a simular experiance with them not staying on the nest, although at one time one of the roosters was sitting o one of their eggs. With ours, the drakes tail feathers are curled at the very end, is this common to all drakes? We look forward to hearing from you and thanks for opening a page about domestic ducks. |

I noticed it has a large knob-like bump on its' leg. There is one on the other leg, but not as big.. maybe only half the size (just down from where the leg joins the body) I t ink this is what is bothering it the most. Any ideas?? I am trying to keep it as quiet as possible to give the leg a good rest and keep it warm. This is day 3 with this poor duck and it seems much stronger, and actually hobbled to the pool and climbed in ith a little help from me. Thanks for your website.. Keep updating so we can follow their lives. I would think it is hard to find a vet that knows anything about duck illness. Is it hard to keep them healthy?. Bob |
