It all began out of boredom - I would either find something I could do to keep me busy, or sign myself into the nearest mental ward!!!!! I had actually done a bit of flower arranging in the past simply because I had an empty hanging planter indoors and a few artificial flowers I had used to perk up my outdoor garden which had refused to grow real flowers!!! One day, while shopping at the dollar store (my favorite hangout), I found some cute wicker chairs. I bought a few and a few bouquets of flowers. Before I knew it, I was out of control. Most of the chairs, pictured below, were used as door prizes for Kim's baby shower.
During another trip to the dollar store, I found a large bin of clowns. Now what could I do with these? I bought several, brought them home, stared at them for a bit, then decided they would make great Christmas gifts for my daughters. Again I found myself out of control and before I knew it I had dozens of clowns staring me in the face. The local thrift shop owner agreed to take a few on consignment during the Christmas season and actually sold a few.
Once the dollar store ran out of clowns, and with my creative juices still peeking, I was forced to find other sources to keep myself busy. Baskets!!!! I had lots of baskets and if I ran out, I found a source that would keep me supplied at a very low price. The flowers were also cheap enough to keep my costs down. At this point my house has become overwhelmed with flower arrangements (and with two cats, finding storage out of their reach is a challenge). I am hoping to find a craft show at an affordable cost where I can sell my baskets and recoup some of my costs.
I will continue to add photos of my flower arrangements over the next few weeks.
Aside from flower arranging, I enjoy collecting antiques (which isn't easy on a paupers budget) and refinishing furniture. One of my favorites is a child's rocker I found at the resale shop. It was in pretty poor shape but a steal at $15.00!!! After 2 weeks of scraping off layers of paint, sanding and buffing, I found an antique worth at least 10 times what I had paid for it. The rocker was refinished and now sits in my living room and will be handed down to the next new grandchild.
