Usher Responsiblities- Service Checklist
BEFORE WORSHIP:
Arrive at the church 30 minutes before the service begins.
_____LIGHTS: Make sure that ALL LIGHTS ARE ON.
_____CHOIR: If the choir is scheduled to sing, rope off the choir area until the choir is seated.
_____PASTORS: Check with the pastors for special needs of the day's service.
_____BULLETINS: Take a position at the entrance of the church to greet worshipers and to pass out bulletins to both adults and youth.
_____CANDLES: Light the candles at your convenience.
DURING THE WORSHIP SERVICE:
Participate in the service.
Avoid ushering worshipers in during the Confession and Prayers.
_____COUNT: Count and record the number of worshipers.
_____COUNT: Count and record the number of leftover bulletins.
_____OFFERING: Once the offering is collected two ushers proceed forward down the main aisles as the pastor beckons them forward. Immediately after the pastor has received the plates the usher will turn and return down their perspective aisles.
AFTER THE WORSHIP SERVICE:
_____CLEANUP: Straighten the sanctuary by checking each pew to make sure that all hymnals and Bibles are in place and trash is picked up.
_____ATTENDANCE PADS: (8:30) Place the attendance pads at the left end of each pew. (10:45) Collect the pads and place them on the bookcase in the rear of the church.
_____OFFERING: Remove offering plates from the altar and go to the Sacristy with the Church Council Representative. The council person will take care of sorting the offering. You simply need to witness and sign the sealed envelope.
Communion Directions
Immediately after the Lord’s Prayer, begin ushering people forward for communion.
Ushers #1 will begin along the wall of the south section and direct the guests to fill the communion table from left
to right. One of the pastors will be standing at the far left.
Usher #2 will begin in the right aisle of the center section and direct the guests from the center section to fill the communion table from right to left. One of the pastors will be standing at the far right.
Usher #3 (if there is one) will position him/her self at the front just left of center.
Usher #3 will make sure that the guests will fill the communion table from the outer edge to the inside. He/she will then direct the guests to place their cups in the baskets in aisle area. Both sections will file back to their pews down the center left aisle.
When usher #1 is finished with the south section he/she will begin to direct the back of the middle section from the center right aisle to go to the South wall. This group will file back to their pews down the center left aisle.
Usher #2 will direct the west section (choir section) to the communion table.
Usher #3 will direct the entire communion table to be filled from either the left or right side until all guests have been served. He/she will then direct the guests to place their cups in the basket in aisle area. They may return to their using ether of the main aisles.
