~Portable Heating Pads~
These little portable pads are great for headaches, earaches, cramps, aches & pains, or just for keeping warm. You can put them in the freezer to make a cold pack for sprains, too! They make great, inexpensive and quick gifts for birthdays, Christmas, Mother's Day and Father's Day! So let the kids make some, too! =)
Materials...
- heavy, dense fabric
- soft lighter weight fabric
- uncooked rice
- great smelling herbs (lavender, etc.)
- sewing machine & thread
Directions...
- First, cut the dense heavier fabric to the desired size. You'll need 2 pieces of cloth. Sew together 3 1/2 sides leaving room to fill with the rice.
- Add rice (and herbs if desired); slip-stitch the opening closed.
- Cut 2 slightly larger pieces of fabric from the lighter weight fabric. Stitch 3 sides closed forming a "pillowcase" for your warming pad. This case may need to be washed so choose a washable fabric.
- Heat in the microwave for a few minutes for a portable heat that lasts for 1-4 hours.
*NOTES: This warmer may be made using a variety of fabrics. Choose soft, pretty florals or a cozy, plaid flannel to snuggle up with. Try out different shapes. Make a long, skinny one for your neck. Ahhhhh! Now that's comfort! =)
