This is a dwarf cichlid from South America. The males should be about 8cm., with a blue-green body, orange front, with a dark band from mouth to caudal fin. My male was about an inch long and had not reached his full color potental. I purchased 3 fry from our spring auction. They were placed in a ten gallon tank. They were fed baby and adult brine shrimp along with flake food two or three times a day. The tank received an average of 14 hours of light a day. The temp was kept at 82 with a 10% water change daily. I used aged water and the PH was about 7. the DH was about 20. A sponge filter and six sections of 1/2" x 2" pvc pipe were added. The first attempt was fruitless. The second spawn produced twenty redish-pink eggs about 1/16". The eggs were removed from the females protection and placed in clean aged water in a 2-1/2 gallon tank. Also placed in the tank was a sponge filter and fungus preventative along with an extra air stone. The eggs hatched in two days and the fry were free swimming in two more days. The fry were fed live baby brine for four days then started on flake. I had no problem raising the fry and they grew quite fast.
