First Aid for your Homestead Animals

A well stocked first aid kit for your animals can save you a lot of time and money and possibly a vet bill.

Some of the items to have on hand are:

rubbing alcohol
ichthamol ointment
bacitracine ointment
fura dressing
bag balm
blue kote
4x4 gauze pads (2 pkg)
rolled gauze (4 rolls)
cotton wrap (4 pks)
cotton balls (1pkg)
several rolls of vet wrap
duct tape
scissors
saline solution
betadine
sponges
epsom salts
stethascope
veterinary thermometer

If you have horses, it is good idea to keep Banamine and Bute on hand.

I also keep a supply of clean towels handy.

I keep all of these supplies in a red plastic tool box that is clearly marked "first aid". Inside the lid, I have the vet's phone number, the farrier's phone number and the phone number of a horse friend to call if I can not be located.
