Charter 08. 18 October 1457.--Instrument recording that VEDAST GRERSOUN of
Lag came in person to the lands Betwixt the Waters, that is to the house in
which Patrick McQuonquhe dwells, and that he there took up earth and
stones, with these words, "I justly break and destroy the intrusion, called
sasine, wrongfully taken by William McCoulach of these lands with their
pertinents", and he cast down the earth and stones in front of the house
and broke, destroyed, annulled and quashed the said intrusion, called
sasine, as far as in him lay. Done in the house of Patrick McQuonquhe
aforesaid, at the hour of eleven before noon or thereabouts. Witnesses:
ANDREW GRERSOUN, Adam de Gordoun, Finlay McIhauch, Matthew McMurde, ANDREW
GRERSOUN and Donald de Meligane.

Born: Lag, Dumfriesshire, Scotland; d. after 1481.
Succeeded in 1457 and in that same year, he obtained a Charter from Edmund de Crauford, confirming that of George de Dunbar, Earl of March, to Gilbert Grierson, his grandfather.
"Troquhrin" was resigned by Vedastus Grierson, June, 1465." Records show he was living in 1481. "His wife is believed to have been Isobel (née Dalrymple) Grierson, dau. of William de Dalrymple." They left four (4) sons, viz: (1) Gilbert Grierson, (2) Roger Grierson, (3) Donald Grierson, & (4) Alexander Grierson.

Miscellaneous Charters #11. 27 March 1459.--Instrument setting forth
that VEDAST GREYRSON, lord of Lag, presented himself ready to implement
certain conditions agreed on between him and his cousin, William
McCwllouch, regarding the division and exchange of certain particles of
land, for transacting which the said William neither appeared himself, as
he was bound, nor sent a substitute, and the said VEDAST [GREYRSON] calling
together his friends and kinsmen there present publicly declared the
agreement between himself and the said William, of which he held himself

Miscellaneous Charters #12. 04 May 1459.--Instrument setting forth
that in presence of Sir Thomas de Gilhagy, depute of Masters William Heris
and Thomas Tynding, commissaries of Andrew, bishop of Glasgow, sitting in
judgment, there appeared VEDAST de GREYRSONE, lord of Lag, who demanded
that the following persons who had been cited by the said Judge should be
examined as to what they knew concerning the sasine given by Fergus Mccrey,
serjeand, to a certain Edward de Craufurd, son and heir of the deceased
John de Craufurd, lord of Trarinzane, viz.: --Fergus Duncanson, THOMAS
GRERSON, Thomas Androson, Thomas Goldsmycht, Thomas Mccallan, Patrick
Ahowran and John Goldsmycht, younger, who being sworn said that they were
present and heard and saw when the late Fergus Mccrey, serjeand, on the
precept and command of Sir William de Douglas, sheriff of Dumfries, as he
asserted by the authority of the Earl of March, gave to the said Edward de
Craufurd sasine of the lands of Dalgarnok by delivery of earth and stone,
about nine years before the date of the presents, that sasine was given at
Ravinhill in the house of John Mccallan, that the sasine ox was taken from
Patrick Ahowran and that they were at that time, some of the age of 17,
some of 18 and some of 20 years. (R.H.C. 354.)

Charter 09. 24 July 1464.--Instrument recording that VEDAST GRERSOUN of
Lag, personally present in the court of Ard, there gave sasine of the lands
of Grenane, with the pertinents, in the barony of Tybbris, sheriffdom of
Drumfres, to Jonet and Isabel, heirs of the deceased Duncan John, reserving
terce to Jonet de Dalrympil, spouse of the said Duncan. Upon which Robert
Fergussoun of Bracansid, in name and behalf of the said Jonet and Isabel,
asked instruments. Done at the capital messuage of the lands of Ard.
Witnesses: Robert Crechtoun of Achynsoul, George Cunynghame of Snaid,
Simeon Hall of Kyrktoun, Matthew Fergussoun, Cuthbert Momorson and John
(?), David de Crechtoun with many others.

Miscellaneous Charters #14. 09 August 1465.--Instrument setting forth
that before the commissaries of Nytht there appeared the following
witnesses produced by VEDAST GRERSON of Lag to give faithful testimony in
the cause between him and Patrick de Hamylton, viz.:--ISABEL de KYRKPATRIK,
lady of Rokell, WILLIAM GRERSON of Dalton, GILBERT GRERSON, ANDREW GRERSON,
Donald Huntar, Nevin Clerk, Andrew Mcag, John de Ronan and John de Tynron,
who being sworn and examined deponded that the said VEDAST [GRERSON]
constituted and ordained the said Patrick de Hamylton by letter under his
seal, his assignee for releasing certain lands called Bordlande and
Coulach, barony of Cumnok, sheriffdom of Ayr, wadset to John Fostar of
Barnton, which he did, and he is bound by his great oath, as soon as the
said VEDAST [GRERSON] and his heirs shall pay him the sum of 240 merks to
surrender and resign to the said VEDAST [GRERSON] and his heirs all
charters &c. and all right &c. which he can have to the said lands.

John Litstar, indweller in Bridgend (Fine pontis), near Dumfries, into the
hands of VEDAST GRERSON of Lag of the fee of a tenement on the south side
of the said town, between the tenement of Patrick de Bondbi on the east and
the road leading to the kirk of Troquer on the west, also a croft on the
south side of the said town between the croft of Simon Donaldson, burgess
of Dumfries on the south, the said tenement on the north, the water of the

Heris of Tereglis, knight, John Lindissay of Walchop, George Cunynghame of
Snade, Robert Heris, Robert Maxwell, Edward Crechtoune, James Kirkhalch,
Amer Maxvell of Kirkconnell, Henry Kirkpatrik, Alexander Rorisonne,
Archibald Douglace, Edward Menzeis, James Douglace, Alexander Crechtonne,
William Johnstonne and Robert Mure, who say that ISABEL KIRKPATRIK, [DIED
cJULY, 1472] mother of VEDAST GRERSONNE of Lag, died last vest and seised
of the lands of Roukell and Kirkbrid Rig with their pertinents, in the
sheriffdom of Drumfres and stewartry of Annandale, and that the said VEDAST
[GRERSONNE] is nearest lawful heir, and that he is of lawful age, and that
the lands of Roukell are worth now L10 and were worth as much in time of
peace and that the lands of Kirkbride Rig are worth now L20 and were worth
as much in time of peace, and that they are held in chief of the Duke of
Albany by ward and relief and are in his hands by ward throught the death
of the said ISABEL, [DIED cJULY, 1472] who died about thirteen weeks ago.

the lordship of Anandirdale, sheriffdom of Drumfres, which VEDAST
[GRERSONE] had resigned in the duke's hands at Edinburgh, according to the

his kinsman, ROGER GRERESONE, son of the said VEDAST [GRERESONE], and

of Corochdow, Murmulloch, Cormyligane, Crostane and Marganady, in the

ROGER GRERESONE, son of VEDAST GRERESONE of Lag, of the lands of Arde
Dalgarno, the superiority of Messingerislandis, the lands of Windyhillis
and the lands of Lag, in the sheriffdom of Dumfries, the lands commonly
called Betweine the Watteris, Dullarge, Maby and Dalskerthholme, with the
superiority of Barchare and Auchinfrankach, in the lordship of Galloway and
sheriffdom of Dumfries, which were resigned by the said VEDAST [GRERESONE];
to be held by the said ROGER [GRERESONE] and the heirs male of his body,
whom failing, by the said VEDAST [GRERESONE] and his heirs male bearing the
name the arms of GRERESONE; reserving liferent to the said VEDAST
[GRERESONE] and a reasonable terce to his widow. [Not in Registrum Magni
