In 1859 Newport Union existed there being ten electoral divisions . The Board of Guardians met every Friday .

- Jane Sharply , matron .
- Reverend William Disney Roe , Protestant Chaplain .
- Reverend Richard Prendergast , Catholic Chaplain .
- Anthony Lavelle , Dooega , Achill , Relieving Officer .
- John Corrigan , Castlehill ,Ballycroy , Relieving Officer .
- Peter Gibbons , Newport , Relieving Officer .
- Dr. Robert Collis , Dugort , Dispensary doctor for Achill .
