Injustice in Public Schools
On the second day of school in our public school my son was assaulted by his teacher in the class room. The teacher had ask him 5 times (per the teacher) not to talk to his neighbor. In the second grade most students will talk to there little neighbor on the second day after summer vaction. At this point she walked up to the front of his desk looked at him, walked behind him jerking his chair back with him in it. She then walked to the front of his desk placing both hands on the sides of the desk and shoved it into his stomach. This all took place in a second grade classroom. It was witnessed by other students.My son complained to me and his mother that afternoon when he returned home and I at that time looked at his stomach, I found it to be red like he had been struck across it with something hard. He was very upset crying and couldn't tell us anything except he was quiting school. Him being 8 years old this disturbed me greatly.I listen to what he had to say about what had happened. The next morning he complained of his stomach hurting and feeling sick so we kept him home. This gave me time to discuss this with his mother and decide how to proceed. We reported the incident as described to us to the Principal. He assured us he would look into the matter.He remaind sick and out of school for several days. Not being able to go to school and the pain getting more severe I took him to the local hospital Emergency Room for examination and treatment. Upon the ER Doctors examination he found that my son was suffering from a bruise of the intestines We explained what happened to him and he did as the law requires him to do in the State of Missouri, he called the child abuse hotline. Which started a investagation that lasted about 1 week to the best of my memory and The Missouri Department of Family Services investagator turned in the report calling what had happened to my son as an "INAPPROPRIATE ACT BY A TEACHER"Approximately 30 days after the blow to the stomach my sons appendix had to be removed as an emergency before rupture.I got no satisfaction by talking to the Principal so I went the next step, I got no satifaction from the Superintendent so I took the next step. I called the President of our local school board. He ask me to let him check into it and I did. When I called him again he informed me that he didn't want me calling him to talk to the Principal. I think the reason that nothing was done was due to the fact that the Teacher in question is now the present Superintendents wife. He was the Assistant Superintendent, at the time.I went to the Prosecuting Attorny of our County to question what could be done in regards to the assault on my son. He informed me that he did not know how to proceed with it and called the Juvenile Officer. He inturn called Family Services. Do you see the circle forming here? He further advised me to have anyother parents to call Family Services to complain if they had had any simular problems which I did. Three other parents called in to the Child Abuse hot line. It has been almost 3 yrs. I consulted several Private Attorneys most refused to take it for various reasons. From conflict of intrest to didn't have the time. I found one that looked at all the information including a cassett tape of a child that had been threatened with having a rubber band put around his private parts after being spanked for using the restroom on the playground, I might add that this child was refused access to the building to use the restroom. After setting on it for 2 years almost, I had to call and ask that he return it to me if he was not going to do anything. Along the two year that he had the information he informed me that nothing would be done in a court case due to the DFS(Department of Family Services) report.If anyone who reads this has had a simular problem in a public or private school PLEASE let me know.
