Marriage Bond Between Benjamin Caffee/Calfey and Margaret Dyer/Dier Christiansburg, Montgomery County, Virginia, September 8, 1785

Know all men by these presents that we Benjamin Caffee and Charles Deir are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency Patrick Henry, Governor of Virginia for the time being and his successors for ever the sum of fifty pounds current money to the which payment will and truly to be made we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our signatures and dated 8th day of September 1785.

The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas therefore bound Benjamin Caffee hath this day obtained License for his marriage with Margaret Deir sister of Charles Deir of this county now if there should be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage then the above obligation to be void otherwise do remain in full force and virtue.
