William Covey to Daniel Dean, Jacob Pearson and others this indenture made this twenty-fourth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty-four between William Covey of the County of Guilford in the State of North Carolina of the one part and Daniel Dean, Jacob Pearson, Ralph Heath, Martin Weatherby, Robert Heath, John Pridew, Julius W. C. Schulyer trustees in trust for the uses and purposes herein after mentioned all of the County of Guilford in the State of North Carolina aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth that the said William Covey for and in consideration of the sum of six dollars specie to William Covey in hand paid at and upon the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged that given, granted, bargained, sold, released, confirmed and conveyed, and by these presents doth give, grant, bargain, sell, release, confirm and convey unto them they said Daniel Dean, Jacob Pearson, Ralph Heath, Martin Weatherby, Robert Heath, John Pridew, Julius W. C. Schulyer, and their successors trustees in trust for the uses and purposes hereinafter mentioned and declared all the estate _______interest property name and demand whatsoever either in law or equity which he the said William Covey hath into _____upon all and similiar surrender a certain lot or piece of land situate lying and being in the county of Guilford and state aforesaid bounded and butted as follows to wit:
Beginning at a bunch of ashes being the corner of a piece of land belonging to the said William Covey and adjoining on the corner of Daniel Doniel and on the line of John Rankins turning thence at along the line between said Covey and Doniell forty poles to a large white oak thence north twelve poles to a chesnut, thence west forty poles to the old line between said Covey and John Rankin thence south along the said line to the place of beginning containing and laid out for three acres of land, together with all and singular the houses, woods, water ways, privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging or in anywise pertaining to have and to hold all and singular the above mentioned and described lot or piece of land situate lying and being as aforesaid, together with all and singular the houses, woods, water ways and priveleges thereto belonging, or in any wise appurtenances unto them the said Daniel Dean, Jacob Pearson, Ralph Heath, Martin Weatherby, Robert Heath, John Pridew, Julius W. C. Schulyer and their successors in office, forever, in trust that they shalt erect and build or cause to be erected and built thereon a house or place of worship, for the use of the members of the Methodist Episcopal Church in the United States of America, according to the rules and discipline which from time to time may be agreed upon and adopted by the ministers and preachers of said church, at their general conferences in the United States of America and in trust and confidences that they shall at all times forever hereafter, permit such ministers and preachers belonging to the said church as shall from time to time be duly authorized by the general conferences of ministers and preachers of the said Methodist Episcopal Church or by the annual conferences authorized by the said general conference to preach and expound God's Holy word therein; and in further trust and confidence that as often as any one or more of the trustees herein before mentioned shall die or cause to be a member or members of the said church, according to the rules and discipline as aforesaid, then and in such case it shall be the duty of the stationed minister or preacher authorized as aforesaid who shall have the pastoral charge of the members of the said church to call a meeting of the remaining trustees, as soon as conveniently may be: and when so not, the minister or preacher shall proceed to nominate one or more persons to fill the place or places of him or them whose office or offices has (or have) been vacated as aforesaid--provided that the nomination and election of such persons shall be according to the rule and order of said Methodist Episcopal Church as contained in the discipline of said church--and the said William Covey doth by these presents warrant and forever defend, all and singular the before mentioned and described lot or piece of land with the appurtenances thereto belonging unto them the said Daniel Dean, Jacob Pearson etc. and their successors chosen and appointed as aforesaid from the claime or claimes of him the said William Covey his heirs and assigns, and from the claim or claims of all persons whatsoever. In testimony, whereof, the said William Covey hereto set his hand and seal, the day and year aforesaid. Sealed and delivered in the presence of us.
