November 30, 1999 Jonas McCord, director of the soon-to-be-released film "The Body" (he also wrote the screenplay) said today of his film, "In a world where Kosovo became a situation (and) where, in the name of God, people do...violence, this film says God has no place in politics." God has no place in politics? Mr. McCord has missed the mark completely, just as so many purveyors of pop culture do, unwittingly or otherwise. If God really had a place in politics, situations such as Kosovo would never happen. Today's society has successfully removed God from most things. People can no longer speak of God in public; God's laws cannot be displayed in public and cannot be mentioned in school. Prominent political figures villify those who believe in God as weak-minded. But it is precisely because God has systematically been removed from society that society has sunk to the violent and immoral level that we see today. Yes, people do evil things in the name of God. Is this God's fault? No. Does God command it? No. Let us remember the 6th Commandment: "Thou shalt not kill." Let us also remember what God's son, Jesus Christ, commanded us to do:
From this we see that violence such as in Bosnia and Kosovo and elsewhere is against God's law. Those who kill in the name of God are in violation of His law. So, if God really had a place in the hearts of the leaders of the world, they and their people would not be violent. The social, economic, and political problems that face them and their people would be much easier to cure. Sound too simple? Yes, perhaps. But it really is that simple. |
