Summer Palace, Buddhism, and the Emperor
The spotlight of the Summer Palace in China's capital (Beijing) stands a 9 foot tall Buddha that has 24 arms.  Buddhist (Daoism and Taoism) faiths dominate the land and at one time dominated the government.  The emperor of China in ancient days would come to the temple in the Summer Palace as a vacation of sorts.  Even on vacation, the religious Buddhist followers make time to attend the temple and pray for blessings.
Farming and the One Child Law
Most of China, in ancient times, were farmers like this man here.  Dressed in convenient and suitable attire these farmers spend about 10 hours a day in the field.  The farmers are the only ones who are allowed to have two children, the rest of China are only allowed to have one child.  The one child policy was established to control China's population boom.
Gung-Fu and the Martial Arts
Martial arts is a very important part of Chinese culture.  It seems that every boy learns some form of the arts at a young age.  The elderly rise with the sun and get a good days exercise (Tai-Chi) before the rest of China wakes up.  At every temple there is a Gung-Fu master who teaches the students the finest moves, such as this one displayed here.
Great Wall of China
China is covered with a 5,000 year history.  One of the more notable landmarks that can be seen from space is the Great Wall of China.  A wall that is 15 feet high and 10 feet wide that extends along the mountain ridges from the Pacific to the Potala Palace in Tibet, a distance of about 3,000 miles (New York to London).  The task of building the wall is credited to emperor Qin (Ching) and was completed about 350B.C.
