Project Album
Before beginning restoration I drove the car for a few weeks to
work. I also took it for a spin at
the locale 1/8 mile drag strip. With the existing open rear end the car ran a best of
9.876. I only
gave her about 2/3 throttle off the line to keep the rear tire from going up in smoke.
The following pictures were taken March 1, 1999
Side view with doghouse removed. I will we be welding in two new quarters before painting.
The previous owner had filled them with bondo.
Rear view with bent rear bumper. I just purchased new bumpers at a swap meet will have
pics soon.
Interior view, just needs buckets installed new steering wheel and black seatbelts.
Buckets I got from my uncle for free from his 71 Camaro parts car. They just need new
covers.
I will be removing the motor so I can repaint the firewall and front clip. The 350 has
less than 4000 miles since rebuild
but since I will have it out to paint the front end I figure it could use a coat of red
paint to match the future body color.
I'm thinking about installing an aluminum double core radiator also.
Front fender after striping and rust repair. Both fenders are ready to prime.
Stage 2 involved removing the motor so I could
paint it and the engine compartment.
The following pictures were taken between the 10th and 19th of May 1999.
Removed motor to allow for detailing and painting of the motor and front clip.
Partially disassembled the motor and cleaned it up to prepair for paint. The motor
didn't
look to bad after it was cleaned up other that some pealling around the gasket areas.
Painted the intake and water pump with Krylon Aluminum colored paint.
Motor after painting and installation of new valve covers.
The following pictures were taken June 4, 2000 when I dropped the car off at the body shop.
I have a 2 1/2" cowl induction hood on order from Unlimited
Products. I will post pictures of the
hood as soon as it arrives.
The following pictures were taken on July 3, 2000.
I have lots of pictures of the progress from June 4 to July 3 but they will need to be
scanned.
All the rust has been repaired and the car has been sprayed Flame Red and wetsanded (thats
why its dull).
It is currently waiting to be buffed and should then be ready to come home.
After the wetsanding I snuck over to the body shop and installed the front and rear window
trim
tail lights, rear SS panel, front eyebrow trim and side window weather striping.
This is a shot of the underside of the cowl induction hood waiting for paint.
