Made from plans described in Fine Woodworking issue #32, January/February 1982. The sides are dovetailed together, and the bottom is nailed on with 7/8" fine cut headless brads obtained from the Tremont Nail Co.
The sides and bottom are 1/4" cherry, resawn by hand from a 3/4" board.
The handle is red oak, steam bent and then shaped with rasps, files, and sandpaper.
The inside of the carrier is painted with Soldier Blue milk paint from the Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company, Inc., and a coat of linseed oil. The handle is fastened with brass rivets, available from MSC Industrial Supply Co.
The exterior and handle are finished with a mixture of linseed oil, turpentine, and spar varnish, rubbed with 0000 steel wool, and waxed.
