~~The home video version of "Titanic" will go on sale Sept. 1 with a massive ad campaign aimed at repeating its record-breaking box office success in video sales. Paramount Home

The media blitz, including TV commercials and full page advertisements in newspapers and magazines in the U.S. and Canada, will cost more than $50 million.
~~"Titanic" director James Cameron could be in legal hot water over some sketches used in the blockbuster film. In the movie, Leonardo DiCaprio's character shows a sketchbook full of charcoals of nude women to Kate Winslet's character. Cameron has said the drawings were his. But according to the June 1 issue of New York magazine, three of the sketches strongly resemble famous photographs: Sally Mann's "Rodney Plogger at 6:01"; Alfred Stieglitz's "Georgia O'Keeffe, Hands, 1920"; and Brassai's " 'Bijou' of Montmartre." That raises the question of copyright infringement; according to the report, none of the artists or their estates granted permission for their work to be used prior to the movie's release last December.

~~The Definitive Book:James Cameron's Titanic-is on sale and it includes a detailed look at the monumental effort by thousands of artists and craftsmen to accurately re-create the "ship of dreams", including the full-size replica of the ship and the 17-million-gallon tank facility designed to sink her, new discoveries from Cameron's 1995 dives to the wreck; an overview of the film's groundbreaking visual-effects work; and in-depth interviews with cast and crew
~~The ship shots of the sunken Titanic in the beginning of the movie were the real ship under water. Two and a half miles below the ocean's surface; taking camera men and the director James Cameron through a two hour free-fall to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean
~~Number of hours James Cameron spent on deep-sea explorations of the Titanic to gather underwater footage: 180(approx.)
~~Leonardo DiCaprio wasn't the first choice for the part Jack. Screenwriter and director James Cameron considered Matthew McConaughey and Chris O'Donnell before deciding that both actors were too old to play the poor artist
~~Kate Winslet was so vowed by the role of Rose that after her screen test she sent Cameron a single rose with a card signed "From your Rose" and followed it up with a personal phone call. The ploy worked! She swiped the part out from under fellow contenders Gwyneth Paltrow, Claire Danes, and Gabrielle Anwar
~~Cameron named Rose after his grandmother Rose Cameron, a schoolteacher who always encouraged him to read
~~This was Leonardo' first million-dollar-plus paycheck. But he originally wasn't sold on the role and encouraged Cameron to make the character of Jack more "interesting."
~~Extra! Extra! Titanic Star Kate Winslet Nearly Drowns. Well, not exactly...but that's what a supermarket tabloid published after hearing about a mishap on the set. Here's the real deal: While she was running away from a huge rushing wave, Kate got her long coat stuck on a gate and was briefly trapped underwater until she could remove the costume
~~Thirty lifeguards kept constant watch over the 17-million-gallon water tank where much of the movie's filming took place. Not one of the cast of 150(or the 200 extras or 800 crew members) drowned, although three stuntmen broke bones
~~Since the shots on the decks of the ship were filmed in sunny, hot Mexico, special effects artists had to digitally add the white puffs of breath that come out of the actors' mouths so the scenes would look like a trip across the icy Atlantic and not a Caribbean cruise
~~While on location in Mexico, Leo was so homesick for his L.A. friends that he had them flown down to be with him.(He usually has a clause in his contract that enables his pals to fly free to wherever he's filming.) Among the star's closest comrades are his Titanic assistant, Jonah Johnson, and fellow actors Tobey Maguire, Kevin Connolly, Vincent Laresca, Dash Mihok and Ethan Suplee
~~Remember when the ship's bridge was flooded by water crashing through the windows? It was one of the most dangerous sequences in the movie. Director Cameron, an experienced scuba diver, filmed the whole scene himself wearing a wet suit and crash helmet
~~The blue diamond neckalace, Le Coeur de la mer(Heart of the Ocean), is fictional
~~Claire Danes, the Juliet in 1996's Romeo and Juliet, was the first chosen to take the part of Rose Bukater in Titanic but she refused. Claire said,"Yeah, I chose not to do that movie. I didn't want to do that movie. Can you imagine - another movie with Leo? Oh, another epic romance. And drowning with him...Yeah, again. The water - we'd never get out of the water!"

~~Although Titanic's Rose(Kate Winslet) and Jack(Leonardo DiCaprio) are fictional characters, at least one real-life romance resulted from the real disaster. First-class passengers Mary Eloise Smith and Robert Daniel met on the rescue ship Carpathia. Smith had lost her husband in the tragedy but managed to find a future husband in Daniel, whom she married two years after their salvation at sea.
~~Fourteen years BEFORE the Titanic sank, English writer Morgan Robertson wrote "Futility", an imaginary account of a collision between an iceberg and a large transatlantic ocean liner on her voyage to New York. But the similarities between the fact and fiction go further than that. Robertson's ship was called Titan, it was 800 feet long(the actual Titanic was 882 feet) and not unlike the ill-fated ocean liner, the Titan also didn't have enough lifeboats.
~~There was such a person named Jack Dawson aboard the Titanic ship in 1912. His body was recovered after the tragedy and buried in Halifax, Nova Scotia. But James Cameron got the name of Jack Dawson for the movie before he even knew there was such a person in real life.
