Don't Let This Happen To You!
Listed below you will find some basic fire safety tips. I have tried to make the tips easily understood by children, however,
any parental participation would greatly reinforce the importance of fire safety in every home.
Always practice and plan a safe fire escape route with your parents.
- Replace and inspect the batteries in your smoke detectors on a regular basis.
- If you smell smoke NEVER open a closed door until you have felt it for heat.
- If you wake up and smell smoke or hear the smoke detector alarm sounding, drop to the floor and crawl tp the nearest window or planned escape route.
- Parents, remember that children will often try to hide from fire, be sure to check in their closets and under the bed when searching for missing children.
- If your clothes catch on fire, STOP, DROP AND ROLL ON THE GROUND, COVERING YOUR FACE.
Remember, never store flammable items such as, wood, chemicals and oily or dirty rags near heat sources. Ask your parents
to help you make a fire escape plan for your home using the model below. Make sure that everyone knows where to meet and most importantly, practice your escape plan on a regular basis.
A very worthwhile visit.
