Grace and Lucy are my sister Anneliese's two gerbils. Grace was originally one of mine, in that she was born in one of my litters. Her parents were Phoebe and Ciaran, and Adia was her sister and littermate. She is a lilac female and was born on the 4th of November, 1997. She's Pookie's granddaughter, too, but she looks just like her dad Ciaran. You can watch her "grow up" along with her siblings if you check out her litter's page. She's a real sweet heart, loves the wheel a lot, and is living happily with her friend Lucy. She's also very fond of dust baths! = )
When we first got Lucy, we were under the impression that she was a dark eyed honey patch, and she looked like she was. However, over about a month's time, she developed a lot of gray fur all over her back, and eventually we realized she must be a nutmeg! Patched nutmeg patched are a lot lighter than normal nutmegs, which are a very dark brown.
These two gave me an absolute headache introducing them = ) At first, Grace would bat at the bars; she didn't want company, and missed her sister Adia. But after 10 days in the split tank she calmed down, and we introduced them. They got off to a great start! But the next day, my sister ("Queen of All That is Lame and Stupid" = ), being the ignorant 12-year-old she is, put both of them in a box full of old bedding from when I cleaned out tanks, to let them burrow. Well, as soon as she did that, their scents got mixed up with all the old bedding, and they started fighting! We had to separate them.
But, I am nothing if not persistant. They went back into the split tank for another week, and finally, on February 13th (FRIDAY the thirteenth--bad move I guess = ) we introduced them. They got along fine and still are!
Grace's registered name is TDC's Full of Grace. She, like the rest of her litter was named after a song my Sarah McLachlan. If you have LiveAudio on your computer, you can hear this song (albeit in .midi format, so it's not the TRUE music) playing. It's very nice, and IIRC it won a grammy award for best instrumental (that or that was Last Dance . . . can't remember).
Gracie turned one year old on November 4th, 1998 and Lucy will be one as of November 15th, 1998. They're a very sweet pair and have gotten on very well since they were introduced. I know females are supposed to be very picky about their cagemates, so I'm glad I got lucky with the two of them. They're very sweet = )
