Hafwen Lanai is a very pretty Dark Eyed Honey. She was bred by Lisa Harrell and her parents were Sonny (DEH) and Cher (DEH). She'll be registered as TKC Sweet Surrender. She was born on May 23rd, 1998. Her cagemate is a very pretty champagne girl from Eve (schimmel) and Reilly (champagne) named Linnea, who I'm going to register as TDC's Ever After ;) She was born July 9th, 1998.
Hafwen means "summer-beautiful" in Welsh. Her last name is Lanai, which isn't named after anything, really. But their breeder's name was Lisa, and Hafwen Lisa wasn't really a name, so I took the letter "L" and made something up = ) Linnea on the other hand was named after a name I just happened to like. It means "the lime blossom". If you want see her grow up, I have pictures of her litter - Reilly Litter #3.
Hafwen's a sweety pie and lives up to both her names. She's sweet, and beautiful = ) Her color is a very rich, dark orange, and looks very much like the pictures of DEHs I have seen on the internet. Her parents on the other hand are somewhat lighter, but one of them is AaPpCc(h)eeGG which might have something to do with it! ;) Her siblings were dark eyed honeys, nutmegs, and whites, and she has a nephew that is a yellow fox. Her breeder has a website, The Kindred Circle.
I had to introduce Linnea to Hafwen when Linnea was 3 1/2 mos and Hafwen was 5. This is why. First of all, I had Lilith, a light colorpoint nutmeg I got from Kitt in S. Dakota back in July. I didn't have a mate for her right away so she needed a companion. I decided to get Hafwen from Lisa Harrell to keep her company til then and possibly breed (she has a 2 in 3 chance of being Aa, 2 in 3 chance of being Cc(h) and 1 in 2 chance of being Pp). Also at the time my 2 yr old Phoebe had just been widowed and so I decided to keep Linnea (champagne F born 7/9) for a friend. Well during the 3 wks between Phoebe losing her mate and Linnea being weaned, Phoebe died = ( but I was so attatched to Linnea I didn't want to give her up. So I introduced Linnea to Gemedet (who was also waiting for a mate).
Well about a month or two later, Gemedet got her mate (Banner, grey agouti), Lilith got hers (Ashwin, siamese), so I gave the 2 other girls a week's "cooling off" period so they realized that they were either gonna be alone or get along with whatever new cagemate I put them with... then I put them in a split tank for 2 weeks, and introduced them on October 24th, 1998 = )
Both my girls are little sweeties and I'm *so* relieved that they're getting on well = ) They're going to be best pals for life. Linnea is still a little wary of bigger Hafwen, but I'm sure she'll get over that in time. Linnea is extremely photogenic just like her daddy, Reilly. I think it's a champagne thing ;)
Linnea & Hafwen spend much of their time running on their wheel. It is suspended on the side of the tank by a bent coat hanger. They would run on it nonstop if I didn't take it out at night!
