Here are the results of the April 10th, 1999 Newark Small Rodent show, which included a small show for gerbils =)
1st place, white belly: Mindy's Drawn to the Rhythm ("Elan") golden agouti
1st place, any other variety: TDC's Aylwen (schimmel)
3rd place, any other variety: TDC's Eve (schimmel)
1st place, provisional: TDC's Antius (argente spot)
2nd place, provisional: TDC's Dana (light colorpoint slate, aka siamese)
Best In Show: Mindy's Darwn to the Rhythm
Reserve Best In Show: TDC's Aylwen
There weren't many competing gerbils, so most of my pictures are of other critters that were running about =)
A hooded agouti female rat, belonging to Beth. She's the daughter of Ruby (see later).
This is a bushy-tailed jird!! She was bought by Samantha a while ago along with a male mate. However, he died, so she decided to place the female. The jird (sorry, I forget her name, and I don't think I could ever pronounce it! =) was bought by Sarah.
Another shot. BTW the weird fur on her back is because her cagemate over groomed her, and it's now growing back in. They are very cute, and friendly, but spastic!
Here is Beth, judging some guinea pigs. I loooove guinea pigs.
Ever hear of a "European Black Bear Hamster"? Well... y'know they're just black Syrians (aka teddybears, fancies, goldens, etc.) nothing too special about them, except they seem to be a little bit bigger. But hey the same is true for black pomeranians so what's the big deal.
This is Beth's Champion hamster (she collected 17 out of a necessary 15 points at shows). Her name is Ch. Spice's Colette of Maple Leaf. (Maple Leaf is Beth's hamstery).
Big Mr. Elan being judged. He won Best In Show!
Ack! The rabbit is running amok!
Here are some people setting up for a hamster race. Now that's a sight...
A shot of the whole show. It was held in an indoor arena, with a dirt floor (ick!)
Lots of hamster tanks! I have never seen so many hamsters at once! There must have been at least 50.
Here's Sarah's Ruby, a hooded rat boy. Tho he didn't place high, he stole the show ;)
Here are the Danis winnings.
Ruby enjoyed making friends with the rabbit.
Here is a sable hamster taking a drink.
These are the "pens" the gerbils were kept in briefly during juding, to keep them from getting to each other =)
Here are Beth's two gerbils she got from Kate last August. The argente cream got 2nd place in White Bellied and the dove pied got 2nd place in Any Other Variety.
