and his Second Wife ADELIA SEAMANS (1842-1901) Joseph was a farmer-miller whose first wife, Mary Kay, died tragically when the family woolen mill in Otterville, Ontario burned down about 1862. Joseph, 37, then married 23-year-old Adelia. They remained briefly in Otterville before moving to northern Michigan to join his son Emery, his brother Henry, and Adelia's parents. Later, about 1887, they moved to Roanoke, Virginia after Adelia's doctor prescribed a warmer climate for her. This picture was probably taken in Virginia about 1895 and came into the posession of their grandson Theodore Ellsworth Erb (1903-1989). |
