Caution. This search engine is limited to the wills, maps, lists, documents, essays, photos and other supplementary material on this site. It does not search the main database, which is at another site.

If you want to do the usual surnames search, go to the site search engine at the ERB / LARKINS Rootsweb Database.

Some tips:
1) A simple "Any word" search on "Erb" will trigger too many hits. An "All the words" search on "Otterville Erb" or "Erb Marriages" or "Erb photos" will be more productive. But you can use a simple search for other surnames.

2) If "Any Word" is checked, you can use "+" [must have] and "-" [must not have] immediately before your search terms: "+Otterville +Erb" gives the same result as "Otterville Erb" and "All the words" checked. "+Otterville -Erb" will get Otterville residents who weren't Erbs. But this technique won't work with "All the Words" or "Exact Phrase" checked.

3) If you're searching for people by name, you can use a "+" (with no space before or after) between the given name and the surname: "John+Erb" will count only pages where the two words are next to each other in that order. (To be complete, also search on "Erb+John".) This also works with place names like "Bear+Lake" and "Monterey+CA".

4) Similarly, if you check "Exact phrase" and search for "William Larkins", you will not get a hit for any lists that have him as "Larkins, William". To be complete, use both forms. In exact phrases spelling must be correct and capitalization counts.

5) "Sound-alike matching" is tricky: "Reiff" [the surname]" sounds like the "roof" [of a building], "Rapho" [the township], and "Rev." [the title]. It can be turned on or off, and is usually better off.

6) When you see a "Search Again" option (on the white results pages) it will revert to the default values "Any word" and "Sound-alike matching" off.
