The Lhasa Connection

Scarlett's Adventures in the Country A/K/A Lady and the Tramp Hi my name is Scarlett. I am a 6 year old Shih Tzu. Mom decided that when she went to visit Aunt Bette in NC that she would take me along. Oh boy was I excited. I was hoping that my brothers would get to go too but mom said that wouldn't be possible this trip because we were flying. Because I was the littlest I got to go along because I could travel right with mom and go on the plane with her....I think it was cause I am so cute but don't tell Barney or Theo that. Mom got this nice bag for me to ride in and even put a pillow in it for me cause she knows I like my pillows. When we got to the airport I wasn't too excited. Lots of people were staring at me but I know that was because I'm so cute. When we got on the plane mom had to put me under the seat in front of her...I sure didn't like that. I wanted to be on mom's lap but she said she would try that later. I was a real good girl and didn't make any noise. The stewardess even brought me my own little bottle of water and cup. On one part of the trip we sat next to a little boy and he was crying and making all kinds of noise and knew that didn't make mom too happy…or the other people around us. Mom put me up on her lap after the plane was going and I kept that little boy quiet cause he was so excited to see me. I think that man in front of us was very relieved too! Finally our trip was over and we got to Raleigh. Because our flight was late Aunt Bette was right there waiting for us. I was so happy to see her...she helped take me out of that bag and held me. Then my big adventure in the country began. We got to ride in her big van. Wow I couldn't believe the different smells and things I was seeing. It was cold too. We went up and down hills and drove for what seemed like forever. I really didn't know what was going on and was a little scared...it was dark after all. We got to Aunt Bette's house and boy oh boy was I in for a BIG surprise. I remember my cousin Wags cause he visited me before but there was this BIG black dog, I think it was a dog, maybe he was a horse or something, mom gave him a big smooch and said hi to BO. So that was Bo. Mom let me run around outside right away. Wags was a good host and he came over and sniffed and started to show me where to go potty...I really had to go too. There were so many trees, trees I never seen before and lots of pine needles on the ground. I wasn't sure about them cause they kind of hurt my delicate paws...I am a city dog remember. We went inside and there were cats in there too but they were nice cats and they didn't bug me or nothing. Aunt Bette made this pretty fire in the fireplace for us too...that sure helped warm me up. I curled up on the floor next to mom and oh oh...I had attack of the SBDs. Mom and Aunt Bette had a fit and they sprayed some nasty stuff in the air...mom said that it smelt worse than my SBD....it not my fault was all those bumps and stuff from flying...shake up my delicate stomach. Next morning mom took me for a walk in the woods...my first time in the woods. What an experience! I wasn't too sure about it cause it was so cold and damp and those leaves and things hurt my feets. Wags kept running way ahead...he sure runs fast. So did Bo. Then Wags would come back to me and tell me to get moving and would try to get me to run. He told me I would stay warmer if I ran. I didn't believe that so after a while I asked mom to carry me. I just not used to the country. Later Uncle Jer had a big fire in the woods. It made lots of black smoke too. Wags went out and got himself all dirty. I was a lady and stayed clean! But that was cause I wasn't rolling in the dirt like he did. Another big dog came to visit...he was sure a pretty dog, but so big too. His name was Rambo. We went for more walks and one morning there was SNOW on the ground. Mom put my sweater on me and she did it again...took me for walk in the woods. This time it was more fun and I walked myself most of the time. I didn't run like Wags but I wasn't real slow either. It was kind of fun....all those smells and the neat trees and stuff to see. I sure wish Barney and Theo could have been with me, they would have had so much fun. I got to be a country girl and wasn't afraid to go out exploring. I really liked the country and I even got a ride on the golf cart! Then the day came that we had to go home. I was going to miss my time in the country, but know what, I will be glad to be home with my brothers I almost forgot to tell you, that Wags was one cute little guy and his soccer playing sure impressed me, that and his carefree style. < G> With Wags with me I could really become a country girl!
