VON SEUTTER/SEUTER; MEULLER/MILLERErfurt, Thüringen, Germany Beth Calvert
We are looking for the ancestors of Charles Preston Miller/Meuller. His father and mother came from Erfurt, Thuringia, Saxe-Cobury to KY around 1830/40 at the time of revolution there. The father's last name was Von Seuter and was in the Prussian Royal Guard. When they fled to America, they changed their name to Meuller, the mother's maiden name. Charles Preston Miller was born in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY on Jan. 21, 1843. At age 5, he and his sister Louisa were sent to Germany for schooling. Charles went to the military school in Berlin. At some point, they returned to the US. Charles also had a brother. When the US Civil War came, Charles sided with and fought for the South. This angered his father and they never spoke again. The family returned to Germany without Charles in 1864. Charles is listed in the 1880 Shelby Co., TN census with wife Mary Hunter, and children Maude, Charles P., Allen. Charles had a cousin, Erich Von Seuter, who visited from Germany. He was a flier with the Red Baron and was killed in World War I. He was connected with a German firm dealing cotton.

HARTLEB Schwarzburg, Thuringen Eric C. Hartlep
I'm looking for information about Dorthea Louisa HARTLEB, born 1818 in Schwarzburg, Thuringen. Her Maiden name is unknown, as is the first name of her husband. They had three children in Germany: Theodore, born 1843; August, born 1846; Louisa, born 1847. The Hartleb family immigrated from Schwarzburg between 1848 and 1852 (calculated by the differences in ages of their children born in Germany and those later in the United States), settling first in the Roseville, Macomb County, region of Southern Michigan, USA. The 1860 U.S. Census for Roseville shows three children born in Michigan: Augusta, Henry & Caroline. After the death of her husband, Dorthea HARTLEB married John Christian SCHAAK (SHAIK,SCHOEK) of Nassau, Germany, himself a widower living in Roseville with several children. Between 1879 & 1880, the three HARTLEB brothers moved to the small, mostly German community of Kochville, on the norhtern fringe of Saginaw, Michigan. August married Louisa Hesse of Hesse- Darmstadt, Germany. Theodore married Anna Coyle, of Massachusetts. Henry married Anna Haase. I am trying to determine the name of Dorthea's husband (Mr. Hartleb), and to establish links back to Schwarzburg. The family name has been variously spelled, including these: HARTLEP, HARTLIP, HARTLIEB, & HARTLIB.

Johannes Leonardus Schorr christened in Sankt Georg, Thuringia 21 May 1813. This town was ceded to Bavaria at the end of World War II. There are several towns of this name in modern Bavaria-- which is the one I am looking for? The records are in the Staatsarchive Koblenz if that is any help. I have also seen several called Sankt Georgen--are these the same? Thanks. Marlin Schorr
