The Foster Kids
June 2000. Well, here is my fist batch of foster kittens for the summer. Iconwas the first to arrive. He was so flea invested and sickly when I first got him. I felt so bad giving him a bath but he felt much better afterwards. The first day I had to force feed him but after that, he decided to eat on his own. Right now he is getting over a bout with URI and as soon as he gets better and puts on some weight, he will be ready for adoption.
I have found that he really likes the computer and he spends a lot of time when not playing, laying on the printer. taking a nice nap
Next came a brother and sister. Their mom was killed by a car so they were in need of some help. Thankfully they weren't without mom for very long before they ended up at the shelter. I have had them for about 2 weeks now. They are starting to learn how to eat food from a plate but still like the bottle. I was surprised at how well they use the cat box. I still need to think of some names for them.
My cats have forgiven me for bringing them home and are even helping me out.
And recently, another cat
came into my life. He had been abandon by his owners and was
hanging around my friends place. And being the sucker that I am
for black cats He now has a
new home.
Maggie
Maggie came to me along with her sister Black Kitty from the Boulder Humane Society. They both needed to be fostered until they were big enough to get spayed. Both were very healthy, so it came to a real surprise when Black Kitty died. As I type this, her ashes sit near by. I will never forget her face and how she looked at me as her life was slowly slipping away. Maggie was a real comfort to me during this time. She was so full of life and energy. There wasn't a safe roll of toilet paper in the house! She loved to play and attack anything that moved. She also felt that the computer belonged to her and would decide that she needed to sit on the keyboard while I was trying to type.
Maggie just loved to play with the others. Here you can see her playing with Nutmeg aka "momma kitty". Momma Kitty also came from the Humane Society. She had a litter of 5 kittens who all died. She is still with me because she is not considered adoptable since she is not friendly and is very afraid of people.
It was hard to take Maggie back. I had grown very attached to her and also she was my link to her sister. Thinking about her death will make me cry for a long time to come. Maggie only spent a few days at the shelter before she was adopted by from what I am told, I very nice guy. I hope that she and her new human will be very happy together for many years to come.
