Stimpy,Boo,Felix and Felix JR all like to sleep togeather on the couch.Felix the grey tabby is now at the Rainbow Bridge and very much missed. He died of kidney failure. My wonderful vet Leslie came to the house to put my dear Felix to sleep. He went so peacefully and never had to leave his favorite place on the couch.
Felix I have sent you on a journey to a land free from pain, not because I did not love you,but because I loved you too much to force you to stay
Ann Boo and Harly along with their 4 littermates were recently found at the UCSB campus. They were almost 2 weeks old at the time and appeared to be in good shape. We tried to catch the mom but she was too smart to go into the trap so I had to bottle fed her babies.Thankfully, this litter was healthy and strong. It sure didn't take them long to figure out how to nurse from the bottle. At feeding time I wished I had 6 hands with a bottle each so I could feed them all at the same time. They would all try to climb up my legs while I would be feeding one to get their turn. They now have been placed in loving homes. It sure was hard to give them up,as it always is.Anna Boo and Harly happy to say got to stay togeather and I can see them whenever I want.
Meet Antonio the rabbit who lives with 14 cats! He and Lucky love to play Hide & Seek togeather. They also fight over who gets to play with the little orange ball that they both enjoy tossing about.Antonio also likes to chew on wires.I'm working on "Bunny Proofing".
And here is Pookie. He was traped and taken to the shelter. He had been hanging around somewhere causeing trouble(he wasn't neutered)and the people wanted to get rid of him.He was put in the wild cat room since he was acting real mean and nasty.I can't say I blame him.I wouldn't want to be stuck in some trap and hauled of to some strange place!>
Wild cats are considered unadoptable and after 72 hours are put to sleep.I had been in the wild room when Pookie came in.He was all beat up and a real mess.I tried talking to him and he sat there and grawled at me with his ears back.
The day before Pookie was to be put down something inside me said "Save this cat!".Normally I wouldn't beable to get a cat out of the wild room but by pure luck(or maybe an act of God)they let me take him.I took him to the vet and had him tested, neutered and shots given.
When I got him home I really didn't expect him to stay around.Normally when I fix a wild cat, after they recover, they take off and only come back sometime during the night to eat the food I leave out for them. This is what I expected Pookie to do.But much to my surprise,he didn't leave. The first day after I let him out of the cage he just sat there and looked at me not sure what to think. When I went to open a can of wet food he walked up to me and meowed very loudly and smacked me when I took too long to give him the food! I said to him "Boy you sure have a lot of nerve smacking me after I saved your butt!".One the 3rd day I was sitting on the couch and Pookie came over to me and showed the first sign of affection and let me pet him.Turned out he wasn't a wild cat after all! Just frightened of people.God only knows what kind of life he had had before I got him.The vet determied him to be about 8 or 9 years old.To have been unneutered all that time and to not have FELV/FIV is amazeing to me.And I can't belive that whoever owened him before didn't bother to take care of him.I also wonder how many of the cats in the wild room are just really scard and if they were given half a chance could they become adoptable? I wish more people were willing to take the time and effort to make a difference for these cats.I'm so so glad I have my Pookie. He was and still is so worth the effort.
