Hmmm...I don't think that is an accurate description of the majority of 'hippies' now. Number one: YOUNG? Maybe at one time, but probably the biggest majority of us are in our 40's and 50's now! So it's not just a youth thing, although that is where it's roots were formed. Number two: Eccentric clothing? Then why are jeans and tye-dyed tee-shirts still a staple in many closets of multiple generations? I don't think it was a passing fad! Every generation had it's trademark and that was ours. Not eccentric at all, just comfy and down to earth. Number three: DRUGS? Yeah, they were a big part of the movement, but not all hippies were into them. And where is the mention of PEACE, LOVE, and ROCK AND ROLL? I think that is where the preoccupation was (is). Anyway, I think Webster needs to update the term to match today's hippies, who are just as likley to leave the house in the morning in a three-piece suit (male or female) and short hair, and get into the family mini-van to drive to their daily jobs. Being a hippie is really just a state of mind and being. It doesn't matter what you look like, how old you are, you don't have to do drugs or practice mysticism or want to live with 50 other kindred souls on a farm somewhere in upstate New York. Just be yourself and practice a peace loving way of life. That's what it's all about. So PEACE to you all and like an old hippie in Mississippi would say~PASS IT ON.
