Surnames: LITTLE, POOLE
Places: KY; TN; Macon Co., MO
Date: May 27, 1998I'm hoping you can help me identify the parents of Bright LITTLE who was born 1827 in TN. The verbal family history is that the Little name was once LYTLE. We don't know when the spelling was changed.
By 1850 Bright was living in MO and was married to Margaret POOLE or POOL who was born 1829 in KY. They had a son named John Perry LITTLE born 1864 in Macon county, MO. Bright Little disappears from all census records in 1870.
Because Bright LITTLE had such a unique name, I'm hoping you or someone else who has done Little research might know of his family in TN. My search of the 1830 census shows 22 Littles in TN with a male child under 5 years old. At this point, I don't know where to begin. Any help would be appreciated.

The group settled Salem, NY. I have not made the definitive tie-in, though family papers indicate that my ancestor John (m. Mary PIERCE d. 1837) was a son of Andrew. John's son John (1783 - 1824) m. Sarah SMITH and migrated to Monroe Co., NY, where they settled in N. Chile. John and Sarah's son, Zara (1808 - 1852) and 2nd wife Lois HOLDRIDGE had son Charles Z. (1847 - 1887 m. Emmaline THOMAS). Query #19
Surnames: LYTLE
Places: Hackett, Pennsylvania; VirginiaI am doing my LYTLE family genealogy. I have gotten back to Samuel LYTLE (1819-1865), father of Aaron LYTLE (1848), who fought in the Civil War. Samuel's brother James was supposed to have been in Andersonville or Libby Prison and died there. Samuel's brothers were Hiriam, Gabriel, Thomas and Jehiah.
Samuel LYTLE (d. 1865) was from the Rostraver Twp. area and the rest of my family back through Aaron G., Samuel's sons were from Hackett, PA (part of Finleyville). Most of them lived there and Ginger Hill and Monongahela. Samuel is buried in Fells Cemetery in Belle Vernon. I have a data base of my family back through these two figures. But I cannot connect them with the Robert LYTLE c. 1650s that settled in this area. Supposedly our LYTLEs came from Virginia, (now part of PA) and are somehow related to Robert's line through Isaac (Squire) LYTLE. I haven't been able to make the connection. Strange since we are all from the same area. Somewhere there is a missing link (I feel) but maybe none at all. Any leads would be a help.

Surnames: JONES, LYTLE/LITTLE, HAWKINS, WEST
Places: Ireland; Lincoln Co., NC; Baltimore, MDMy g-g-grandfathers name was James Lytle WEST. His middle name was his maternal grandmothers maiden name. The LYTLEs were from Lincoln Co. NC. James' mother was Mary HAWKINS and she married William WEST, also of Lincoln Co. James was born in Abbeville, SC. Marys mother was Racheal LYTLE, born in Lincoln Co., NC, and died 3 Sept. 1814 in Abbeville District, SC. In my info this surname goes back and forth between LITTLE and LYTLE but, most of the time is shown as LYTLE. And then I have info showing Racheals parents to be Thomas LYTLE born 1749 in Ireland and her mother to be Elizabeth JONES born about 1750 in Baltimore MD.
The West family made its way west by settling in Ohio, Indiana and ending up in Polk Co. IA My maiden name is West and I was born in Polk Co. Iowa. Much history of this family is there. So, if you connect to a Hawkins line through your LYTLEs we might connect. The name also shows up as LITTLE but, most of the time I find it LYTLE.
