Well, here is my sweetie! This is my daughter Jennifer with her new husband Scott, posing with their wedding quilt.
Below you will see pictures of both the front and the back sides of this HUGE quilt!!!
Jen and Scott are standing in a pickup to get up high enough to show the whole quilt! This baby measures 3 yards by 3 yards, which is the perfect size for their California King bed which is on a massive frame. Jen has to get on a step stool to get into this bed!
The placement of squares in this creation were strongly influenced by my interest in watercolor quilting. I wanted the color to flow from one square to another as much as possible.
Scott is a biologist, an ornithologist (bird biologist), to be exact. I let he and Jen pick out fabrics they liked online, and then it was my task to figure out how to fit them together. In the quilt there is a combo of insects, birds and celestial prints. Scott and Jen also fell in love with the painted batik panels and chose six to be incorporated into this quilt. The other four are on the reverse side.
And here you see the back side.... with the four additional batik panels. A variety of celestial and zodiac prints chosen by Jen and Scott surround the four panels. In addition to being huge, this quilt is thick! The batting is 1 inch, so needless to say I used machine quilting. I told my daughter there was no way she would be able to wash this baby in her washing machine at home!
The home in the background belongs to my brother Bob Beglau, and overlooks the Pedernales River near Austin, Texas. The whole family was there for a family reunion when I presented this quilt to Jen and Scott.
