The following info was sent to me by my cousin, Emmitt Nelson Ratliff of Kentucky:
"I hope this may clear up a little problem with "wolf pens". In the March 98 issue of Kentucky Explorer Magazine, a person submitted a query concerning "wolf pens" in early Kentucky. You will find this article on page 104. It would seem that "wolf pens" may have been a means to lure wolfs into and kill them. The area that our Reuben and Huldah lived was referred to as one of several "wolf pens " in northern Kentucky. That area was later named Bells Trace which is just around the corner in the next hollow south of Lost Creek. It was here that Reuben and Huldah lived."
