Obedience, Tracking, Protection
Tracking: The dog tracks footsteps, locates dropped articles and indicates their location. Conditions are less than ideal: heavy cover, less than ideal weather, an old track. The dog must be able to change direction and be accurate in finding the track.
Obedience: Similar to AKC Open and Utility. On and off lead heeling. Sit, down, stay are done. Conditons include working under the noise of a gun being fired. Retrievals include normal dumbell retrieval and retrievals over a one meter jump and a 6 foot wall. Long down stays are included and the obedience phase ends with a long send away.
Protection:The key in this phase is the relationship between the dog and the handler. The dog must be under the control of the handler at all times. Only if the dog or the handler is attacked by the trial helper, is the dog permitted to bite. The dog however MUST STOP biting the trial helper on command of the handler. The trial helper must be guarded by the dog with no other biting.
